Visitors to Mariborsko Pohorje and Areh have access to various new infrastructure in this summer season, which was developed as part of the project »Modernization of Cableway Facilities and Construction of the Outdoor Center Maribor – Areh.« The implementation of this project has enriched the offerings at Pohorje and is already showing concrete positive results.
This project, with an emphasis on developing year-round activities, included a new intermediate station for the circular cable car and the Ruška four-seater chairlift, new bike trails, movement parks, mountain trikes, and other features. These and some other new offerings have attracted significant visitor interest and contributed to very good attendance this summer season.
The circular cable car at Mariborsko Pohorje has transported over 66,000 passengers from the end of the winter season until the end of August this year, which is more than in the comparable period last year. Additionally, the Pohorje Maribor Bike Park has seen a significant increase in visitors this year, with nearly 17,000 cyclists counted from the beginning of the year to the end of August.
This summer season, we are noticing a significant increase in the number of foreign visitors, both on the circular cable car and in the bike park. The majority of foreign visitors come from our neighboring or nearby countries (Austria, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Serbia), but we also have visitors from other countries (Germany, France, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Switzerland, Spain, Romania, Ukraine, England, USA, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Ireland).
The »Modernization of Cableway Facilities and Construction of the Outdoor Center Maribor – Areh« project was valued at 7.5 million EUR. The investment was co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund as part of the EU’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
